Just One of the Girls (1993): Corey Haim’s High-School Gender-Swap Capable

Corey’s ’80s output is legendary, but I spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing over his ’90s oeuvre—particularly the “Haim and Eggs” years.

Then-couple Corey Haim and Nicole Eggert starred together in The ‘Double O’ Kid (1992), Blown Away (1992, their stab at an erotic thriller), and this strappy tale of a guy in disguise: Just One of the Girls (1993). Fun as it is, it’s no Tootsie. And it’s not quite on the same footing as Just One of the Guys (1985)—but I’m always down for its brand of zany cross-dressing tomfoolery.

Why This Direct-to-Video Gem Is Worth a Spin:

  • Peak ’90s Teen Power Couple: Haim and Eggert had undeniable real-life chemistry that carried their trifecta of early-’90s collaborations, making even the goofiest premises completely watchable.
  • Pre-Jagged Little Pill Cameo: Features a glorious appearance and soundtrack contribution from a young Alanis Morissette in her Canadian dance-pop era—blasting hits like “Too Hot” long before her angst-rock reinvention.
  • Silly High-School Shenanigans: Packed with classic ’90s tropes, high-school bully dodging, absurd makeup montages, and pure, unapologetic VHS-era nostalgia.

Just to drag this out: you get a few quality tracks on the OST from Alanis Morissette’s early pop phase, as well as a welcome cameo. I’ll admit, I crushed hard on Alanis back in the day, and even now, I’ll sing “Too Hot” at the top of my lungs given any opportunity.

A silly, comfortable time capsule from the video store shelf, it’s a fun piece of forgotten ’90s history for Haim obsessives.
